05_ Cosmopolis

    "A rat became the unit of currency."

    Story is about a promising young billionaire, Eric, quickly collapsed in a day, and it also symbolizes the collapse of the entire society.  Eric do everything inside of a white limousine, talk shop, have sex, health checkup and more. The white limousine symbolize status of Eric, also a shell to shut people and the society out. The limousine collapse overnight after Eric from rich become rags. His career has been significant downs from heaven to hell. Instead of saying that the reality tear him down, I would say that the personality of Eric can not afford an unexpectedly fail. Eventually he gives up himself and let himself destruction. Everything in this world are so unpredictable, maybe just need a single moment, all the collapse comes fast and fierce.
    In the end of the story before killer shoot, the killer mention that he was waiting for main character's rescue. If those upper class people in this society are able to care more about mid-class even the working-class people rather than exploit them arbitrarily, perhaps those turbulent protests will not happened.

04_ The Secret History of Wonder Woman

   It's always interesting to understand the prototype of a fictional character. I finished the movie version of the story and read some chapters of The Secret History of Wonder Woman. Even though I didn't really finish the book, but it's still interesting to compare the difference about these two medium. The wonder woman made for some reasons, and what's the inspiration of her ability had strong connection with her creator, Marston. For me, the movie version seems to romantic and unrealistic. The film maker kind of on the Marston's side and positive about him, and maybe it's for some marketing consideration, the main character have to be attractive to audience. But I think the great people were not Marston himself, I believe the females behind him are the ones who made him succeed.
  For making a theme park of wonder woman, I may use Olive Byrne as the main character to represent this theme park. Personally I like her the most compare to others. I want to tell my guest about her stories, backgrounds and how she supported Marston. I believe that she sacrificed the most, and also she is the original prototype of wonder woman. That's would be a great connection to introduce what made her became wonder woman. At that time period, the feminism just raise, and also DC is facing it own crisis at that time. Interact about their historical background and how BDSM affect to Marston would be the good resource to point out how him create wonder woman by using Olive Byrne as prototype.

03 _ True Grit

  I watch the movie instead of read the books. The story is simple but attracting. It's about a young girl in her journey who tries to revenge for her killed father, and we all know who is the murder at the beginning. So, no survey or other quests during the process, just a journey about those characters and how they interact to each others.
  In the beginning, Mattie shows up with too mature attitude, and she insist on chasing the murder display that she is ignorant and stubborn instead of brave, somehow she pays the price for that. And Cogburn proved that he is still a tough guy to show he is still valuable. The American western topic are known for everyone, and it's usually start journey with a hero type of male character, but in this story is in a female character's perspective. True Grit shows that the female's determination and courage is by no means inferior to men's.
  The True Grit display different way of the courages, like everyone have their own weakness, and that kind of things we might have no courage to face. But the real courage is not just be brave so superficially, it's about when people befall something difficult or in the position which was hopeless, they can face it with fearless.

02_ Pride and Prejudice

    The first title of Pride and Prejudice was "First Impression." It fit in the content of the story more for me personally. But the Pride and Prejudice makes more poetical feeling I guess. First at all, I'm not a big fan of romantic stories, so I try to avoid that kind of topic for my computer animation thesis. Not because I don't like it or having prejudice about that kind of topic. I watched tons of love story film or even read book. Those kind of stories were trying to kill my feeling and I just getting sick about stories showing two people (or more) missed each other by mistake or no matter what kind reasons, and then finally get back together in the end. It's kind of very formulistic and cliche for me, maybe it's because I'm grown and not really believe the romance anymore. Nut sometime the cliche process is how people fall in love...

    For Jane Austin, I read a paragraph about her life. She met someone who she really loved before, but they were not became couple because of some realistic factors. It cause her always have happy ending for her novel. I read Pride and Prejudice many years ago in Chinese version, it was our junior high school assignment, and also watched the movie version for twice. I'm not really a history guy, but in the movie version when Darcy and Elizabeth met each other in a prom, how they end was really impressed me. The position of female lives in those year of conservative social attitudes were kind of bends comparatively. So Elizabeth has really value and rare characterize.

    The most unacceptable thing in the story for me was that the females need to find someone wealthy to get marry. In Asian countries, we had that kind of situation many years ago, but we are getting better for right now. My grandparents told me their story sometime, it was unbelievable and sad, but I kind of understood how the history became like that.

01_ Prologue

    My name is YaLin Yu, and I go for Cloud, I come from Taiwan. I was raised up by my grandparents, they bought me a series of graphic science magazine as a gift when I start to recognize Chinese characters, I had strong curiosity in my childhood, these series help me a lot to understand this world as a beginner. Then I started my education, and in my country they trained us to read as assignment when we are really young, and have to do books review after reading. I read something amazing fairy tale or some boring great man's biography. But the most important thing for me was I get to know the reading is fun and enjoyable. Books in my youth period are the most important thing for me, and made me kind of knowledgeable.
    What kind of types of reading for me is not the most important thing for my select criteria. I accepted and read every kind of category in my growing process. I read romantic and mystery/suspense at the beginning, then I start to read some fantasy or historical in my high school, and for right now I like to read something motivational. Books and words are the most important property for human, they record the histories of human, and also how people think differently between different time periods. Books are my inspiration even thought I don't really read to much nowadays. I'm not sure how it happened, but I feel like the advancement of technology are making more choice for our entertainment. Reading compares to other method about get the informations or just want to take a rest are kind of taking more times for right now. Some people are still reading, but in this fast-food culture right now, (I'm not sure am I translate it correctly, but basically is about how people need to be fast on everything in this generation) the reading kind of spend too much time, maybe that is the reason why I rarely read.
    I understand the reading is making people improve, but we have to many choice to get the information much quick for right now. I feel like it's a sad fact.
